The Municipality of Almeida, through the Almeida Centre for Military Architecture Studies (CEAMA), continues to establish itself as an important space for understanding the Fortress of Almeida, particularly with the increase in visitors during the summer months.

Over the past few weeks, CEAMA has welcomed both national and international visitors interested in discovering the evolution of the Fortress of Almeida, from the former medieval castle to the present-day fortified town.

The visit includes the interpretation of the Santo António Gate, a fundamental element of the fortress’s defensive system, as well as access to the CEAMA specialised library, which provides valuable support for research and is regularly consulted by students, researchers and others interested in the history and military architecture of Almeida. Visitors can also explore a model exhibition designed to help them better understand the history of the former castle.

A visit to CEAMA complements the experience offered by the other museum spaces within the Fortress of Almeida: the Interpretation Centre of the Border Star-Shaped Fortresses (CIFAR) and the Almeida Military History Museum (MHMA), providing visitors with a more complete and enriching experience.

CEAMA continues to offer its regular programme of guided visits, welcoming individual visitors, student groups and/or tourist groups, and continues to receive all those who wish to discover the stories and transformations that have shaped the Fortress of Almeida.
