The RFAR – Route of the Bastioned Fortresses of the Border was present at BTL – Lisbon Tourism Exchange, the largest tourism event in Portugal, throughout all the days of the fair, with its own stand, in partnership with the municipalities of Valença and Marvão.

This participation marked the Route’s first presence at BTL, with a stand integrated into the project “Consolidation and Expansion of the Thematic Route of the Bastioned Fortresses of the Border of Valença, Almeida and Marvão,” funded by Turismo de Portugal.

On February 26, the Route was officially presented, including a gastronomic moment with a tasting of local products, offering visitors a sensory experience. Throughout the fair, the stand also featured entertainment activities, such as the presence of the Valença and Marvão mascots and an interactive quiz game with prizes, which engaged and entertained the public.

The last day of the fair, Sunday, March 1, was especially dedicated to heritage education, one of RFAR’s main areas of work, and therefore received particular emphasis. On that day, the Route’s games and various educational materials developed in Almeida were presented, namely those from CEAMA, the Interpretation Centre, and the Almeida Military History Museum.

Among the materials presented, the children’s book Entre Cá e Lá stood out. Aimed at younger audiences, it promotes a contemporary interpretation of the Route of the Bastioned Fortresses of the Border, highlighting the shared heritage of the fortresses of Almeida, Marvão, and Valença, while encouraging the construction of a shared memory and a common future.

RFAR’s presence at BTL reinforced its commitment to the valorisation of heritage, heritage education, and the integrated promotion of the territory among diverse audiences and tourism sector professionals.
