The Almeida Historical-Military Museum received with great satisfaction the award granted by the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities (European Federation of Napoleonic Cities) to the project “Trapped in the Museum,” an accolade presented during the Federation’s Annual General Assembly, held between May 31 and June 2, 2026, in Herceg Novi, Montenegro.

This initiative, integrated into the Educational Service of the Museu Histórico-Militar de Almeida, was recognized for its contribution to the valorization and dissemination of history and heritage associated with the French Invasions, representing an important incentive to continue developing innovative projects with strong community engagement.

The Almeida Historical-Military Museum also received an Honorable Mention for its educational activities developed within the Napoleonic theme, a recognition that highlights the continuous work carried out by the Educational Service in promoting historical knowledge among diverse audiences.

Created in 2023, the “Trapped in the Museum” project has enjoyed remarkable success since its first edition, consistently selling out all available places. This outcome demonstrates the interest and enthusiasm with which the community has embraced this initiative, as well as many of the other projects promoted by the Museum.

This recognition is also the result of collective work. We therefore express our sincere gratitude to the team of the Almeida Historical-Military Museum, to the team of the Division of Historical, Cultural and Documentary Heritage of the Municipality of Almeida, to Marco Pitt and Companhia Hereditas, key partners in the conception, development, and implementation of this project.

The growing demand from schools for guided visits, educational workshops, and the Museum’s Activity Workbook is also a highly positive sign. The interest shown by the educational community reinforces our conviction that we are on the right path, developing a high-quality educational offer capable of bringing younger generations closer to history and local heritage.

Finally, we extend our gratitude to all participants—community members, teachers, students, families, and visitors—who over the past years have contributed to the success of our initiatives. This award and this honorable mention also belong to all those who believe in the value of history, education, and heritage as tools for knowledge, citizenship, and identity.

We will continue working with the same dedication to ensure that the Almeida Historical-Military Museum remains a living space for learning, discovery, and the appreciation of our collective memory.
